SSL OxTrail 2024

SSL is sponsoring a life-size ox that will be placed with others around the centre of Oxford through July and August 2024. During this time, visitors will be able to download a map or app which allows them to follow the trail (around the city centre) and try to spot all the Oxen. In September, the oxen will be gathered and auctioned to raise even more funds for Sobell House Hospice.

“Dreams of the Spires”, the ox painted by RAWZ for SSL

For countless hours, Oxford’s dreaming spires have stood in silence, witnessing the city’s dreams. RAWZ's design interprets the iconic skyline’s shapes, weaving an abstract narrative through patterns. The forms interlock like puzzle pieces. A visual metaphor for the coexisting stories that perpetually intertwine, influencing the city in an ever-changing cycle. While the spires remain static, the city’s dreams persist in a perpetual state of transformation.

What is the OxTrail?

OxTrail is Oxfordshire’s first ever sculpture trail, raising funds for Sobell House Hospice. A team of 30 life-sized ox sculptures will be herded into positions throughout Oxford in the summer of 2024, creating an engaging, exciting event for the city – its residents, businesses, and visitors. Each of the giant oxen will be uniquely decorated by local and international artists to form a vibrant and family-friendly trail celebrating the wonderful City of Oxford - its history, culture, places, and people. Over eight weeks, OxTrail will encourage locals and visitors of all ages to explore Oxford’s iconic attractions, find some hidden gems and engage with the community.
