Duende Native encryption is based upon ‘Codemeter’, a system supplied by ‘WIBU Systems’. This system is also used by other audio industry products including Magix ‘Seqouia’, Propellerheads ‘Record’ and Algorithmix plug-ins.
The Codemeter system supports two different types of copy protection device (dongle); a software only virtual device and a USB hardware device (much like an iLok or any other USB dongle). WIBU refer to both of these devices as a ‘Codemeter Stick’ or ‘CmStick’. They call the software only virtual device a ‘CmAct’ and they call the USB hardware device a ‘Codemeter’.
SSL uses the WIBU Systems ‘Codemeter’ to offer a Hardware Dongle as an optional USB hardware device to serve as a portable copy protection system for SSL Duende Native Plug-ins.
You do not need a Codemeter (hardware dongle) to use Duende Native Plug-ins, you can choose to only use your plug-ins on a single computer and to use a free, CmAct software only Virtual Dongle instead.
The Codemeter Hardware Dongle enables you to install and use your Plug-ins on several different computers, for example a laptop and a desktop computer. When you want to work with the plug-ins on a particular computer you simply move the Codemeter Hardware Dongle to that computer.
You can only ever use your plug-ins on one computer at any time. You cannot use a single Product Licence in a CmAct Virtual Dongle and a Codemeter Hardware Dongle at the same time. If you want to use a plug-in on two different computers at the same time you need to buy two different instances of the Product.
It is OK to run some of your plug-ins on a CmAct Virtual Dongle and others on a Codemeter Hardware Dongle, you simply need to select which plug-in you wish to activate on which Dongle (CmStick) during the online activation process.
The Codemeter Hardware Dongle is a standard USB device which requires no software installation or additional drivers. Simply plug it in to your computer, wait until you see a confirmation message and it is ready to use.
The price of the Duende Native Codemeter Hardware Dongle includes shipping.
If you already have a Codemeter Hardware Dongle installed on your system and in use with products supplied by other manufacturers the SSL software installer auto-detects the device and will not overwrite the License(s) already contained within it. When you activate your SSL plug-ins the Licenses will be added to your existing Codemeter Hardware Dongle.
Hardware Dongles do not ship with your plug-ins pre-activated, Dongles need to be activated online. The Activation process varies according to whether or not you have previously activated your plug-ins in a Virtual Dongle installed on your computer.
If you have purchased plug-ins in our Web Store and have not yet activated them; plug your Hardware Dongle into your computer, visit your My Products Page in your My SSL Profile, select the plug-in you with to activate, click on it Activate Now link and follow the instructions.
If you have purchased plug-ins in our Web Store and previously activated them on a Virtual Dongle; you may wish to transfer the licence from your Virtual Dongle to your Hardware Dongle. This involves De-Activating the license from your Virtual Dongle. Follow the Licence De-Activation instructions below.
Read more about how to use the Online License Centre.
The License De-Activation mechanism is provided to enable users to move their license from a software only CmAct virtual dongle to a Codemeter hardware dongle. The mechanism can also be used during system upgrades/recovery where you need to replace a major computer hardware component (CPU, Motherboard, HD etc). In both scenarios the process is the same; you must De-Activate your current Licenses because they are specific to both your Dongle type and your computer hardware configuration. When you have De-Activated a license you will find that it’s status on your My Products page changes from ‘Activated’ to ‘Activate’. To Re-Activate a license on your new dongle or on your new computer simply hit the ‘Activate’ link and follow the instructions. Note you are limited to a total of three De-Activations per plug-in, the mechanism cannot be used as a method of regular license transferral between computers.
